THE FAMILYSouth Philadelphia native Louis Cioci found his passion for barbering in the 1970s. Before hair, he was a naturally gifted jazz trumpeter who palled around with neighbor and vocalist Bobby Rydell.
In 1968 when Lou met his wife, Josie, he wanted to start a family business for generations to come. That's when he followed in his uncle's footsteps and became a barber. Lou went on to own three barbershops in Philadelphia, resulting in All About Hair becoming the epitome of family. |
His daughter, Monique quotes how “he knew a little about everything because people in his chair always talked to him. He was intellectual, so he could talk to people, and they would tell him all kinds of things. They found common ground.”
While a gifted barber, Lou never lost his love for playing music. He became part of the Philadelphia Clef Club of Jazz in the 1980s, designed and funded mentorship programs for young musicians, and formed his own Clef Club Community Big Band. |
Throughout the last 50 years, Lou and Josie created an unbreakable foundation that is the core of their business; family.
While Lou was the face of the business, Josie was the backbone. At the age of 78, Lou passed away on January 7th, 2021 after a long battle with prostate cancer. She now continues his legacy. |
All About Hair continues to thrive with Josie, Monique, and their incredible staff that quickly became family.
If you haven't noticed, family is the common motif of All About Hair. We strive to make all our customers who walk in our shop, whether long-standing or drop-in, feel like family. |
